Advanced Sales, Service & Marketing (Godrej & Boyce) - Effective Communication

The 4-day workshop was a great mix of fun, learning and engagement. Lively discussions, insightful activities, and moments that helped us revisit and reconnect with key concepts essential for sales, service and marketing

One key concept much discussed was Effective Communication.

Rather than bore you with academic explanations, I’d like to share insightful anecdotes that highlight the true power of Effective Communication.

Derive your own lessons from them.

During a work chat, a manager tried to sound encouraging:

"You’re doing great! 🎉🎉🎉🔥🔥💪"

The reply came back:

"Thanks! Is everything okay? Why does it feel like you’re screaming at me in emojis?"

Manager giving his team member positive feedback using sandwich method.          Manager: "You’re friendly! But your emails are full of typos. By the way, I love your handwriting!"                                                                                                                              Team Member: “So should I stop typing and handwrite everything?”

Teacher: “Johnny give me a sentence starting with ‘I’.

Little Johnny: “I is....”

Teacher interrupts: “No Johnny, always say ‘I am’. “                                           Little Johnny replies: “Okay. I am the ninth letter of the alphabet”.

A professor giving a lecture noticed a student looking confused.                            Professor (trying to clarify): "Do you follow me?"

Student: “Not as yet Sir. But if want me to I'll send you a request."

There is a terrible accident at a railway crossing when a train smashes into a car. No one is killed, but the car’s driver takes the train company to court. At the trial, the railway engineer insists that he had given the driver ample warning by waving his lantern back & forth for nearly a minute. The court believes his story and the suit is dismissed.

“Congratulations”, says the defence lawyer to the engineer, “You did superbly under cross examination”.

“Thanks”, replies the engineer. “But I'm so glad the prosecuting attorney didn't ask me if the lantern was lit”.

And my favourite:

A ten year old boy was asked by his teacher to spell ‘straight’.                                           He spelt it correct. Teacher asked, “What does it mean?”                                              The kid replied, “Without soda & water”

Effective communication. Turns ideas into action, misunderstandings into clarity, and conversations into meaningful connections.
