Interpersonal Skills - Understanding Perspectives

Updated: Feb 27

This is hair.

Anything else you see is your perspective.

Is your perspective incorrect?

No. Given our diverse 3Es (education, environment & experiences), we tend to see things differently.

Is that a problem?

Only if I stubbornly refuse to acknowledge and accept your perspective and understand how you see things

Why's that a problem?

Because it’ll lead to misunderstandings, arguments, conflicts resulting in communication breakdown, animosity and bad blood.

What do I need to learn?

1. That not everybody will see things the way I see them. Different people have different perspectives for the same person, place or thing.

2. That just because perspectives differ doesn't necessarily mean that one is right and the other wrong. Both can be right - 6 or 9.

3. That I shouldn't become a victim of my own perspective. Need to be open minded to others' thoughts, views and opinions too.

4. That I may not agree with a differing perspective, but I need to at least respect it. No 'my way or the highway'.

5. That a good way to know & understand someone is to listen to them without bias.

6. That when dealing with people it's not always about proving who's right and who's wrong, but more about understanding how people think and behave the way they do.

7. That If I want others to respect my perspective, I first need to respect theirs. Life's about give & take, with give before take.

8. That I should accept contrary views with grace and maturity. Let's 'Agree to Disagree.'

So, this is a hair. And a face.
